This Week in Geek

ThisWeekInGeek2

Hello, fellow geeks! This week has brought us geeking of the cinematic variety! Lots of exciting stuff happening in the world of nerd-films geek TV, so let’s get to it!

Craft Geeking:

Do you love making things? Are you awful at making things, but spend a lot of time on Facebook watching videos of other people successfully making things? Then you should be as stoked as I for Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman’s recently announced new television venture, The Handmade Project. This will probably be the Great British Bake Off  of the crafting world, and, to quote Nick Offerman, “Amy and I have a strong tradition of tomfoolery so let’s see if we don’t have some good fun.” This is VERY exciting news indeed. Get the skinny here.

Bat Geeking:

Children of the 90s know that Kel loves Orange Soda, he do, he do, ooh. Similarly to Kel, I love Batman. I do, I do, oooh. Which is why, I was extremely excited to hear that one of the very best characters in the Bat-universe (better than everyone’s favorite sad detective, Bruce Wayne), Batgirl, is getting her own feature film. Also exciting is the fact that Joss Whedon will be directing. Having said that…I love and adore Joss Whedon (seriously, I watched all of Dollhouse. TWICE!), but this would be such a great opportunity for DC to have a female director step up to the plate. Nonetheless, I feel cautiously optimistic (and am hoping for some kind of a Batgirl of Burnside spin to this).

Spy Geeking:

Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle released the poster and cast list and OMG I AM SO EXCITED! Colin Firth is back in a starring role, Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges will both be involved as well, which makes me hope this is a Big Leibowski reunion situation, Channing Tatum and Halle Berry and I just don’t know how to deal with the wait! Details here.

Trailer Geeking:

My countryman Luc Besson released the second trailer for his sprawling new epic sci-fi film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. This film looks like something I need to put into my facehole immediately. I need to consume all of this trippy futuristic butt-kicky goodness post haste! See the trailer here.

The new Justice League trailer also dropped this week, and I…I just don’t know what to do! I mean, typically Zac Snyder superhero films are not my jam. Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot are very much my jam, however, and I am ashamed to say that this looks like it could be good. My geeky little feelings are being torn very much asunder. One thing that I think we can all agree on, however, is that Jason Momoa showing up to a Bat-fight (that’s what all of Bruce Wayne’s showdowns are called, right?), looking at Bruce’s costime and saying “Dressed like a bat? I dig it.” is the highlight of everything already. See the full trailer here.

Stay geeky, y’all!
